A Special Birthday Boy and another awesome cake

Evening Everyone
In all the hive of activity involved in the preparations for Christmas and the New Year a very special young man's birthday always seems to get missed out of my blog posts.
On the 16th December my Grandson Reece was 9.

The card I made for him used another of my favourite Lily of the Valley die cuts. They really are so useful when time is of the essence :)
I cut him out and mounted him over some background papers from my stash.

The clock has been cut using the Tim Holtz die that I bought when I was at Sir Stampalot in November. I can see that it will get plenty of use in the future.
I ran the blue background paper through the cuttlebug using an embosssing folder.
The greeting is from a clear stamp set, sorry can't remember which one, and the brads are from my stash.

Reece's Dad certainly didn't allow his birthday to go by unnoticed. Jason worked really hard to create another of his fabulous cakes, this time in the shape of the Millennium Falcon from Star Wars complete with flashing lights and sound effects.

It was very hard to get any decent pictures of it, so these really don't do it justice, but I will get shot if I don't share it with you all.

It even sat on a pedestal which sparkled with edible glitter.

And he cut the base board to fit exactly.

A couple of Lego figures where borrowed to sit on the top.
Reece was thrilled to bits with it as you can well imagine.
Father Christmas brought Jason the food mixer that he asked for so he is already planning his next creation. So much for the diet lol.

An evening at Lavender Lane and more cakes.

Afternoon All.
I had a lovely evening class at Lavender Lane yesterday. We did some embossed resist using Hobby Art stamps including Anna's collection Just for You among others.

Once the panels were made we added some sparkle with crystal embossing power, and as the class was 'Dazzling Diamonds' there were some vellum diamonds and cuttlebugged backgrounds.

I cut the vellum using a Nellie Snellan style nestie and then accented it with my embossing tool. I attached the vellum to the card using brads.
The ladies all managed to come up with totally different colour combinations which is just brilliant. The coffee and the conversation flowed, with many glowing remarks about my cards on the Clarity show on Sunday, so all in all a good time was had by all I think. We are going to do another evening class in June.

Last week was a rather frantic one in the caking department of our household. Firstly Jason made this cake for a friend of his who was leaving her job at Barclay's Bank.

 Unfortunately she had been ill so she didn't get her final specifications to Jay until the very last minute.

I think she was pleased with the finished results, although I know Jason feels that he could have done better. He is very much the perfectionist.

On Friday of last week we found out that the cake being made for Tyler's birthday on Sunday had fallen through. Not .wishing him to have a party without a cake Jason volunteered to make one.

No sooner had the dust settled from the 'bank job' (delivered Thursday afternoon), than we were back to clouds of icing sugar and a bright red fire engine complete with Fireman Sam.

I think you will agree it was a sterling effort and much appreciated by Mum and Dad even if all Tyler wanted to do was snatch the figures lol.

Megan is having her own sleepover party with her girlfriends this weekend and I know Jason has a cake planned for that so I don't think we will be sugar free for much longer.

May seems to be an exceptionally busy month for cards so I had better get back to work if I am going to make a dent in my list.

A palace for a Princess

Evening Everyone.
The phantom cake maker has been at it again.

This castle was made by my Sin-in-law Jason (a tyre and exhaust fitter for those of you who have just joined my blog!!!). It was made for his best friends eldest daughter.

He took over the kitchen for several days and everything has a distinctly dusty feel due to copious amounts of icing sugar that were sifted around, but I think the end result was worth all the effort. Everyone at the party certainly seemed to think so anyway.

My Granddaughter Megan suggested the drawbridge and every thing has a liberal sprinkling of fairy dust although that is very hard to show off in the pictures. Even the grass around the castle has been hand textured, quite a labour of love.

My small contribution was a card from my box for the birthday girl. I made it some time ago with an old Magnolia stamp from Sir Stampalot 1165D Tilda in Boots. The sentiment is by Hobby Art.

I have hundreds of finished cards but very few ready made for little girls or boys so this was quite a find, especially as they didn't ask about a card till they were just about to walk out the door lol.

Redbull and Proplus!!!!!!!!!!

Hi All
Sorry I've been a bad blogger over the last couple of days but I have the best of excuses - THE TWINS ARE 3.
I had every intention of posting on Saturday morning before I went to Lavender Lane, but I went downstairs for a coffee and two excited little people came downstairs and wanted to open prezzies and before I knew it I had to have my shower or I would have turned up to class in my PJ's lol.
When I got home they were still on a high - how wonderful to be three with not a care in the world.
We had a BBQ and then before we know where we were I was falling asleep at the computer so no post at all !!
Today has also been very busy with a trip to Manic Monsters with about a dozen kids all under 10. It was actually much easier than it sounds. Manic Monsters is this large indoor play area with ball pools, slides, go-carts and all sorts of safe areas for the kids to play. For a fee they also provide lunch as well so we were able to sit and keep an eye on everyone and not have to worry about getting the party food ready - very civilized.
I was even dragged onto the twisty slide by Saskia who couldn't manage to climb up it by herself, but then proceeded to come down on her own so I just had to follow her!!!!
No photographic evidence thank goodness even though I went on it several times. It was actually quite fun, but don't tell everyone. Grandchildren are a wonderful excuse to behave like a kid.
And now we come to the main reason for the Redbull and Proplus, besides all the kids that is.
He's been at it again. The Phantom Cake Maker has been honing his cake making skills on cakes for the twins.

Ciaran is SOOOO into Fireman Sam. That was the only one of his prezzies that he wanted to play with after he had opened them on Saturday Morning, a fire engine that plays the music from the TV show. Oh and it has a siren as well !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Saskia on the other hand has Pepper Pig as her favourite. I have to say I know nothing about this show yet. I have resisted the temptation to be educated but I can see I'm not going to get away with it for much longer.
I only know about Fireman Sam cause he was around when the girls were young, or was it the minded kids? Anyway even he has changed cause he is now this computer generated show -  Ciaran will not watch the old style shows with the plasticine type figures it's far too old fashioned for him. I like the old style show better, but then I am old I suppose, as the kids are at great pains to point out lol.
Jason made both of the cakes yesterday. But as he wanted to keep them as a surprise for the kids he couldn't get them started till they were in bed, so they didn't get finished till about 2.30am!!!!! Hence the need for the Proplus.
I was dispatched this morning to the garage to buy it while the cars were loaded with kids, cakes, party bags and balloons. Much coffee was also consumed at Manic Monsters so I suspect we may have to haul him down from the ceiling by bedtime he he.
They have all gone out this afternoon so I am finally able to get on with the twins cards - you know me it is rare for anyone to get their card on time.
I have finished Saskia's. Hers was easy - pink and girly, but now I have to get Ciaran's done and that is much more difficult.
I will keep you in suspense a little longer while the silicone dries. Yes there are flowers on it lol.

Thank Crunchie it's a Birthday

Evening everyone, I just had to share this with you.
This is the birthday cake that Megan's Dad made for her.
Jason works in a tyre and exhaust fitting centre and although his is well know for his abilities with rebuilding cars he may now have gained a new reputation in cake making circles lol.
He found out what sort of cake Megan wanted for her birthday and has spent the last couple of weeks doing practise bakes to make sure that the sponge would be OK before attempting the real thing.
We have all probably put on several pounds in weight with all the taste testing, but I think you will agree that the finished result was well worth the effort. He had even sent away for edible glitter to make the inside of the wrapper.
He is now a true crafter - he sparkles!!!!!!!
