We have our very own bridge

Hi All
Well it looks like I will definitely have dry feet getting to work tomorrow as they have built a pedestrian bridge from the end of my road to the BP garage!!

How worrying is that, I guess that they are expecting this to go on for a long time if they have gone to the expense of building this.

I know one lovely lady who will be very pleased with its construction. Sylvie should no longer have to put up with people using her garden as a walk way.

Happy Birthday Rithika

Hi All

Another wet and miserable day here, so lets throw a little sunshine on the proceedings with this card that I made for my Boss's daughter. At least it made him smile, and her too.

With everything that has been going on at work just lately Sega forgot to speak to me about making a card, but as his daughters are written into my birthday planner I made one over the weekend so as not to be caught out like last year.

The main image is a Lili of the Valley topper, die cut using a circular Grand Nestie.
I added some faux stitching and then mounted it onto purple card stock die cut using my favourite Go Create die.

The main background is a piece of white card which has been dry embossed with dye based ink on the folder before running it through the machine.It has also been spritzed with assorted Glimmer Mists.

The sentiments are all from Lili of the Valley, but her name has been spelt with die cut letters.
The die cut leaves match the stamped images on the purple card stock and are by Penny Black.

Today has seen more rain fall, although fortunately no where near the cyclone levels that they forecast. Long may their predictions be wrong I say :O)

People have still been driving though like lunatics with no care for anyone else. They also appear to be oblivious to the police presence.

I actually witnessed a driver continue to drive through the flood water despite the policeman standing in front of him with his arm raised telling him to stop. There was quite a cheer when the police officer pulled him over and gave him a ticket lol.

Oh well lets see what tomorrow brings.

A view through the trees

Evening Everyone,
I hope that you have all had a good Monday, if there is such a thing that is lol.
I'm told that our little water fuelled drama actually made it into the national news as they have had to flood the pedestrian underpass in the next town in order to stop the nearby Water Treatment works from closing down.
In fact we were even visited by some MP, whose name escapes me, that's how useful his visit was !!
At the moment they are reviewing the situation on an hourly basis, but the word is that we could be under water for several weeks yet especially as the rain shows no sign of letting up.
Still, as I have said before there is always someone worse off than yourself and so my heart goes out to those people whose homes have been completely flooded. At least all I have to do is paddle to work which is very minor by comparison.

I had a rather successful January in the Christmas card department, I managed to finish 40 cards.
Yes I did say 40!!

I have made a concerted effort to use up bits and pieces, so after each class I have gone through my Christmas stash and finished off a few cards using the technique that I have just been teaching.

Some of the bits, as with these lovely chalked panels, have been in my box for more years than I care to remember.

They have all been made using a very old Penny Black stamp, versamark ink and decorating chalks.

I decided to keep the cards small and very simple so I just added a stamped and embossed greeting and a fine gold or silver border using a Krylon pen.

I very much doubt that I will make any where near as many cards this month, especially given that I haven't made one so far. Still at least this has given me a great head start on the year, and the drawer with all my Christmas bits in is ever so slightly easier to close.
Better get to bed now. At least it seems to have stopped raining for the moment.
Let's hope they get it wrong again with the mini cyclone and torrential rain that they have been forecasting for the last week or so. I guess we will just have to wait and see.

A Sketch challenge

Evening Everyone,
I made this card last week using the sketch at Sunday Sketch and Stamp and it has taken me till now to blog it, which is hopefully just before the challenge closes.

The chalked butterfly panel was in my stash box and I have stamped and embossed the fabulous Woodware stamp over the top of it.

I think this stamp is probably one of my favourites from this latest collect from Woodware.

The background card is also from my scrap box, so I guess that this will also fit very nicely into the Woodware challenge this week, which is Stash Busters.

These are pictures that I took this morning at the bottom of our road. This is the current state of the main A22 road, a direct link to the M25. You can imagine the chaos that its closure is causing. Please ignore the date on the photos as I had to put in new batteries and didn't think to re-set the calender properly.

At the moment the water treatment works just down the road is under threat and so if it is a choice between keeping that open and flooding us we loose :O(
Worryingly we have heard talk that the road could be closed for a couple of months!!!!! Given that no deliveries are able to get in to the garage I'm not quite sure how that will affect things for me, and of course my Sin-in-law works at Wraybury Tyres which is completely under water, so as you can imagine we are a pretty worried household at the moment.
Crafting keeps me from thinking of all these other things so I will be back again tomorrow. See you then.

Flood Update

Evening Everyone,
It has been another wet and miserable day here in Whyteleafe.
This morning when, I went to work, it was dry and the road was clear of flood water although it was still blocked with signs and cones. Needless to say drivers continued to feel that this didn't apply to them and even drove on the pavements to by pass everything.
We had heard that it was still blocked because the road was subsiding, and part of me was kind of hoping that a car would end up pitching itself into a big hole even though that would have made things 10 times worse. Workmen eventually removed all of the signs and the road reopened, so I can only assume that the subsidence must have been a bit of a Chinese Whisper.
By the time I left work however it had been pouring with rain for several hours and the flood water had returned only this time with the added element of raw sewage!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I ended up ringing the Local Highways Agency (I'm sure I wasn't the only one) and telling them that we needed the road to be closed again as a matter of urgency . This time the flooding is much worse, in fact it is very reminiscent of 2000 which is a very scary prospect as the road was closed then for nearly 4 weeks.
I realise that there are other parts of the country that have got it much worse than us, and that it probably seems quite pathetic by comparison, but I can only comment on what we have here and its horrible.
In fact we have just had to help out one of my Sin-in-laws work colleagues who has had to evacuate his house due to flood water and a gas leak, so there is always someone worse off than you wherever you are.
I have no pictures to share tonight I'm afraid. I was showing customers pictures of the flooding at work and I have left my camera by the till.
I don't fancy going out in the rain unless I have to, so I will have to share a card with you tomorrow.
Lets hope the rain lets up.

Should have gone to Specsavers

Evening,
Well it has happened just as I feared, the main A22 at the bottom of our road has flooded.

It has been absolute chaos. People obviously can't read the road sign that clearly states ROAD CLOSED, or else they are of the opinion that it refers to everyone except themselves.
At one stage I even witnessed a lorry move the cones and drive through, followed of course by every one of the sheep that had followed him up the road in the first place!!
The only good news is that the water board took note of the vehicle number plates and will be reporting those who drove through to the police. With any luck they will be prosecuted.

This is the view from my till, and I have had plenty of time to look out at the road given the lack of customers. After all there is only so much dusting that you can do while you wait for the next one.
I think I might have to take in some colouring to do tomorrow, or maybe a good book. At least I should be able to draft out a few blog posts, unless by some miracle the water has all gone and we are back to normal.
At the very least I need to make a big sign for the drivers to read.............SHOULD HAVE GONE TO SPECSAVERS!!!
